Highlights: Watch Arsenal fans celebrate incredible 3-2 comeback over Bournemouth

Arsenal maintained a 5 point lead over English Premier League rivals Manchester City after a 97th minute miracle strike by Reiss Nelson. Time will tell if this effort will help Arsenal win their first Premier League title since 2003/2004. But the 3 points they have salvaged from being 2-0 down at home to Bournemouth has certainly got some Arsenal fans daring to dream. Watch Arsenal highlights from this incredible game.

Arsenal v Bournemouth 4/3/2023

The English Premier League standings would suggest that this would be another standard home victory. Bournemouth went into the game second bottom of the league and have never managed to beat Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal sitting top of the league fending off title challenges from Manchester City and Manchester Utd were the clear favourites.

Bournemouth were quick to silence the expectant Arsenal supporters with an incredible goal from kick off that took just 9 seconds. A flicked ball into the box, a well timed run past the defenders gave Philip Billing an easy finish. Arsenal were shell shocked. Despite trying to get back into the game in the first half, the Bournemouth keeper Neto managed to make some great saves. It wasn’t all backs to the wall for Bournemouth who threatened a few times by catching Arsenal on the break.

A little over 10 minutes into the second half and Bournemouth had doubled their lead after 57 mins. A well worked run from a corner kick allowed Marcos Senesi to get enough space to glance a header past the Arsenal keeper to make it 2-0. Arsenal were staring down the barrel now and needed a quick reaction if they were going to salvage anything in the last half hour.

The comeback

It didn’t take long, and on the 62nd minute Emile Smith Rowe capitalised on Bournemouth not clearing their box. His speculative header was met by Thomas Partey who made no mistake from close range to bring the score back to 1-2. From that point, Arsenal could taste blood and were applying the pressure. Bournemouth were struggling to cope. Their lead only lasted another 8 minutes. On the 70th minute Reiss Nelson whipped a cross from the left wing which Ben White met with a ferocious strike as he ran in from the right. Although it looked like the Bournmouth keeper had made a good save, the referee indicated that the ball had crossed the line to make the score 2-2.

There was plenty of time for Arsenal to go on and win the game. However, they just couldn’t seem to convert their chances. Arsenal had 17 corners throughout the game versus Bournemouths 1 corner which they had scored from. But alas, it was on the 17th corner in the 97th minute that might just have saved Arsenal’s title hopes and dreams. The corner was swung in and cleared by Bournemouth, but only as far as the edge of the box. Reiss Nelson controlled it on his chest, took a touch with his right foot and then riffled the ball from just inside the box passed the Bournemouth keeper. An incredible strike to end a game and send the Arsenal fans into huge celebrations with a 3-2 victory.
